Transfer News: Liam Shaw joins Motherwell as Celtic look to sell Ismaila Soro, Vasilis Barkas and Boli Bolingoli | Football news

Motherwell loaned Liam Shaw to Celtic until the end of the season.

The midfielder is the second player to leave Parkhead in as many days after Ewan Henderson moved to Hibernian on loan until the end of the season on Thursday.

Shaw – who was also wanted by St Johnstone – has only started one game under Ange Postecoglou since his summer transfer to Glasgow from Sheffield on Wednesday.

He could make his Motherwell debut against Ross County on Jan. 18 with the Hoops keen to get more playing time for the 20-year-old.

Celtic are looking to get rid of a number of players in the January transfer window to reduce squad size with 33 players now in the first team, with nine more on loan.

It follows New Year’s Eve signings from the three J League targets – Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate.

A number of clubs in Europe, including Turkey, remain interested in goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, but Celtic have not received any offers for the Greece international at this point – with the club also open to offers for the full-back left Boli Bolingoli.

Vasilis Barkas has struggled since joining Celtic

The New York Red Bulls are one of several clubs in MLS targeting Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro.

The Ivorian international has lowered the hierarchy under Postecoglou and the club is ready to listen to any loan or permanent offer for the player.

Meanwhile, Celtic are expected to sign Sligo Rovers forward Johnny Kenny for £ 125,000 – initially joining Team B.

A fee of £ 6.5million has been negotiated in principle with Benfica to sign Jota, who is currently back in Lisbon to have his injury assessed.

An upfront fee of £ 6million is included in the Carter-Vickers loan deal, with one source claiming Sky Sports News talks between Celtic and Spurs are based on the structure of any potential permanent deal. It is understood that there is no wiggle room on the overall price for the US defender.
